Who or What is Skidoo!?

Good question. The name is a reference to the very odd 1920s phrase "23 skidoo!" which could be used in numerous situations. The meaning varies from "skidaddle" (or run away) to "just do it" (or dive in without a care). I felt this was somewhat appropriate to the way I write and record.

So this particular Skidoo! (also known as Simon Young, or just Sy) has been entirely unable to escape the urge to make music for about 25 years. Not that I've tried very hard. I do tend to spend all of my pocket money on the studio, but it is a rewarding exercise so it's time and funds well spent.

The aim is to create something that I really enjoy listening to. The hope is that other people enjoy it too, hence why this site exists. I don't actively try to make money from music. I find that music is a very delicate thing, so to try and extract a living wage from it would drag it down to a level of mundanity from which it would be powerless to lift off. Money and gravity would appear to have a lot in common.

So I give it away. Free. You like it? You can keep it, and give it to your friends as well. The only thing I ask is that you don't try and make money from it, or pass it off as your own. If you like it enough to think you'd like to join in, then contact me and let me know. I'm always willing to collaborate if an interesting proposal is made!
